Basildon Council

Basildon Council

Basildon Borough lies in the heart of South Essex, 30 miles east of the City of London. The Borough covers an area of approximately 42 square miles and has a population of approximately 174,500.

The Borough’s landscape is varied, comprising the three main urban development areas of Basildon, Billericay, and Wickford, plus a number of villages. The Borough boasts six Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSIs) and over 50 Local Wildlife Sites (LoWS), Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) and Country Parks.

idverde has been delivering grounds maintenance services to Basildon Borough Council since 2010, when the company was awarded the initial seven-year contract. idverde were then re-awarded the contract for a further seven-year period from 01 April 2017.

Maintenance Rounds

The contract includes grass cutting, hedge cutting, shrub bed maintenance, and weedkiller spraying at specified intervals throughout the year.

For operational purposes, the district is divided into six areas, as illustrated below.

Basildon areas

This table shows how often the grounds maintenance teams from idverde are scheduled to carry out different tasks in each month.

Basildon maintenance schedule

Communal Gardens

Grass cutting is scheduled to be undertaken 10 times per annum between April and the end of October. On average, this means your grass will be cut once in every 15 working day period.

We collect any litter before cutting the grass, and clippings are left evenly distributed. Any arisings that fall on hard surfaces will be blown or swept back onto the lawn.

Please use the menus below to view the dates when the grass in your area was last cut and when we are next due to visit your area.

Shrub beds

Shrub beds are pruned annually during the winter and receive an additional summer prune between June and the end of August.

Hedges

Hedges are maintained on the same schedule as shrub beds to ensure that sightlines and visibility remain clear.

Please note: The weather can have a significant effect on the schedules. If it has been very wet, it may be necessary to postpone scheduled activities such as grass cutting to avoid damage to the ground. If this occurs, notification is made to the relevant person and the grounds team will carry on as normal as soon as the weather allows.
