Plantscape celebrates record year for solar-powered Christmas trees

Plantscape is celebrating its most successful year of sales for its solar-powered Christmas trees to date.

And it has been so busy that the team is concerned it may run out of the eco-friendly, hassle-free alternatives to traditional decorations months ahead of the big day in 2020.

Dozens of towns and villages across the UK opted for the trees, which are mounted on walls and lampposts or displayed in a dramatic tower format and work out at a fraction of the cost of classic illuminations.

The self-contained, solar-powered trees, which come complete with 80 twinkly LED lights, fit easily onto existing lamppost or hanging basket brackets and can be individually programmed, back at Plantscape HQ, to switch on at the council’s chosen time.

Even in traditionally non-sunny locations the trees light up for five hours – as witnessed by happy customer Oban Business Improvement District in Scotland, which has used the trees for several years in a row.

Benefits, as well as looking pretty of course, include the fact that there is no need for a complex and costly wiring infrastructure, nor the accompanying electrical certification. The power supply is free (thanks to the generosity of the sun!) and they can be installed in places where there is no easily accessible electrical source.

They even have a battery back-up in case the sun fails to shine.

With high streets up and down the country having to try harder to become ‘destinations’ to compete with the massive rise in online purchasing, festive lights are becoming an increasingly important way for towns to lure shoppers.

And Plantscape is recommending councils allocate a chunk of their 2020/21 budget for the trees – and get their orders in well ahead of time to help boost their local economies.
