Plantscape’s 100,000 sq ft greenhouse complex in Egginton, Derbyshire is already gearing up for an influx of orders from councils, BID teams and In Bloom groups planning their summer displays.
With the capacity to create 12,500 planters, window boxes and hanging baskets filled with 118,000 plug plants, the team is already taking orders, and in the spring will be planning colour schemes, planting, nurturing and watering plants.
May sees the beginning of the mammoth task of distributing, installing, maintaining and watering the planters for local authorities and community groups across the UK.
Plantscape’s unique seven-day watering system minimises man hours and thus costs – and is so effective it will even be able to cope magnificently if we see a repeat of the 2018 heatwave!
Customers say the Plantscape displays make a massive difference to the mood and feel of where they live and help attract people to spend money in the town.
Popular historic tourist destinations such as York and Chester are among the cities enhanced even further thanks to Plantscape’s ministrations
York Business Improvement District asked Plantscape to provide 140 planters wrapped around lampposts and directional fingerposts, a dozen freestanding flower towers and numerous hanging baskets across the city centre this summer, in locations such as York Minster.
The pots, the first coordinated floral scheme the city has had in a decade, were planted with trailing begonias, petunia, surfinias and geraniums in pinks, purple, yellows and reds.
York BID operations manager Elliot Sawyer said: “We wanted to fill the city with colour during the summer months. The planters have attracted a lot of positive comments from businesses, residents and visitors.”
In Chester, Plantscape installed tailor made window boxes on its Grade 1 listed medieval buildings and distinctive covered walkways.
The city’s famous Rows – the only streets of their kind in the UK with first floor ‘pavements’ leading to shops and businesses – are a big draw for visitors to the former Roman settlement.
Plantscape manufactured a series of specially engineered bespoke brackets to meet strict conservation criteria while being able to withstand the pressure of heavy planters.
Members of the city’s CH1Chester Business Improvement District group were so thrilled with both the stunning displays and the innovative way of securing the planters that they had no hesitation in reappointing the company for the summer of 2018.
Town clerk at Featherstone in West Yorkshire, which has been using Plantscape’s services for a decade, said the flowers made residents feel happier.
“The town council has received so many lovely comments from residents. They look at other local areas and are commenting that they are nowhere near as good as Featherstone’s.”
