Town ups ‘destination’ status with Plantscape’s winter displays
Northwich’s vision to be seen as a vibrant, exciting and successful town for resident and visitors is being enhanced this winter – thanks to the addition of winter and spring flowering planters to its streets – and the installation of Plantscape’s solar powered Christmas trees over the festive season.
The displays – which included mini trees on lampposts and hanging and railing baskets and planters throughout the town centre – were among a number of investments made by the Northwich Business Improvement District team.
The decision to invest in winter planters is part of the organisation’s aim to deliver a greener and cleaner Northwich to be enjoyed by shoppers and retailers.
It is the latest in a series of projects undertaken by the BID under the Greener and Cleaner theme, with 2018 proving to be one of its most productive years to date.
Northwich BID Officer Mark Henshaw said: “Last year we once again had great feedback from businesses about the solar Christmas trees, so we had to bring them back for 2018. They looked great and added some sparkle to late afternoons and evenings.
“The plants will take a bit longer to catch the eye of visitors but will provide some lovely spring colour in March and April.”
Northwich BID is one of a number of BID groups nationwide with which Plantscape works – providing a combination of summer and winter planting and solar powered Christmas trees – with the aim of boosting the economy in these areas.
It also works with scores of councils and In Bloom groups to bring all year-round colour and joy, with historic tourists towns like Chester and York among its customers. In the summer, its seven-day watering system saves man hours and therefore money – and held up spectacularly over the unrelenting heatwave of 2018.
